Shared notes can help someone answer a question while still needing revision. This retrospective study compares 48 scaffolded answering attempts by four researchers across 24 selected cases, each containing three linked 1Cademy notes. It examines source material, paired answers, assessments, and proposed changes. In one case, two researchers used a formula for a hypothetical calculation but still proposed changes to its explanation. More broadly, similar assessments accompanied different recommendations, while different assessments sometimes led to the same next step. The analysis considers what each existing recommendation would establish and what would remain unresolved. It motivates interfaces that distinguish answering a question, improving a shared explanation, and checking whether the material supports another use. These are design proposals, not demonstrated learning gains or platform-wide benefits.
